Gmail- You are never late

Posted by karthiksn

For all those people out there who always forget birthdays and anniversaries and even deadlines, Gmail has come for your rescue.

New! Gmail Custom TimeTM

Ever wish you could go back in time and send that crucial email that could have changed everything — if only it hadn’t slipped your mind? Gmail can now help you with those missed deadlines, missed birthdays and missed opportunities.

This feature is going to be the talk of the town for sometime.

Now you can be sure that all your emails will be sent in the past and you don’t have to meet any deadlines. Here is a testimonial by one of the user.

“I just got two tickets to Radiohead by being the ‘first’ to respond to a co-worker’s ‘first-come, first-serve’ email. Someone else had already won them, but I told everyone to check their inboxes again. Everyone sort of knows I used Custom Time on this one, but I’m denying it.”

Robby S., Paralegal

Then there is this clause that you can send only 10 mails per year because google thinks people will loose faith in emails. Here is what Gmail says about how many years back you can send the email to.

Is there a limit to how far back I can send email?

Yes. You’ll only be able to send email back until April 1, 2004, the day we launched Gmail. If we were to let you send an email from Gmail before Gmail existed, well, that would be like hanging out with your parents before you were born — crazy talk.

If you couldn’t guess it till now let me make it clear. This was the april fools joke of gmail. Yes, and it seems it is quite good. Compared to the paper mail one which was done last year. I just love google’s jokes.

And yeah don’t lose your chance of being the first humans to colonize space http://www.google.com/virgle/index.html

Google (Not) Hacked

Posted by karthiksn

I woke up this morning(was going to be afternoon soon as I woke up around 11 am) and as usual I just went and took a glance at the paper, the next thing I saw horrified me. I saw this article in The New Indian Express(a faction of Indian Express which only circulates in South India). My first reaction was “What The F@#$” but when I read the whole news my reaction had calmed down since I realised it was once again one of those great Indian Media Follies; picking up news from places which are least bit credible.

Then I showed this article to Harsh in the evening, he said that he had seen that google watchdog link somewhere and gave me the link. I checked the site and searched for the specific post. What I found was utter crap. The so called keywords which lead you to malicious sites was not even listed there.

I don’t know how Indian media can believe any crap they see on internet. They verified it with some one person who said that he ended up on a malicious site when he searched something on google. I bet he was searching for porn materials on google that is why he ended up on some malicious site. People never even think before they click on the links they see on search indexes. First rule of using internet was and is to use ones common sense, which many people now a days don’t care to use and click away on any links they can find(Even if its scientifically impossible which includes crush calculating and taking photos through you rmonitor and many such stuff).

I hope Indian Media actually wakes up to the world of internet and understand that everything they read on internet is not always correct.

Google Book Search

Posted by karthiksn

Now this is something everyone studying college should have in their browser’s bookmark folders. I never actually thought that doing assignments in colleges would be so difficult. I didn’t actually think I would start getting assignments within two week of joining college but still. The professor who gives me assignment insists that we read some book and do it rather than getting stuff of net. The worst part is that I rarely find anything related to my topic on net which becomes quite tough then and as I have late college its quite tough to go to library and search for a relevant book as it might take hours to find something relevant. I always thought if we could google for books and find the specific page which we needed to look and I guess google had answered this sometime back.

One of my non-geeky friends was trying to help with my assignment and ended up giving me a link to this. I couldn’t believe that something like that existed. It was more of a dream come true. All I needed was the right keywords and it was done. I really sound like those cheap ass advertising comments that I get on my blog but really it was very helpful. It gives preview of books which one can then read from the browser itself. Some books have full book preview and some of them have just some pages for preview and one can actually select that which type of books we want to see which is also a good feature.

I was not mood in writing review of something old but still I thought it was something good and useful to guys like me who have Professors sitting on their head wanting them to go through a ton lots of books just to get two page of information, though its not bad its hectic and tiresome. I guess google gods always have answers for everything.

Oh yeah forgot that some guys in schools have these kinds of teachers too so its good for them too, didnt want to make it seem that college is tougher than school.

The G buys The Tube

Well, I guess most of you know what I am talking, I am talking over the takeover of Youtube by Google. I am sure everyone might have read it somewhere or the other. I thought why not think about it. First of all, everyone knows that google has been always on a big adventurous journey to buy anything and everything there is on the web(except MSN that is). Google videos was not one of the biggest hits of google, so buying one of the biggest video sharing sites was the best idea. I have seen that YouTube is indeed a very big hit with many users and more viewers, its the best there is. Google can gain lots from this venture for sure, this includes the idea of making premium or paid accounts to be used by people to store high quality vids. I am wondering whether this is a good move for us or not. I mean that i never tried google videos and dunno what all extra advantages it had over YouTube, but definately with the brains at Google, they can surely make it big. They have the technology and the people for this kind of work. I do believe that this takover will bring in big change in video sharing business. I am more keen on seeing how google is going to utilize there venture to their profit.

On a lighter note I was wondering when will google take over the other tube, I mean the pornotube. :)
