You got Twittered

I have not posted a thing for a long time on the blog. I had saved two drafts on which I was working but a reinstall of XP and reinstall of Windows Live Writer and a little bit of dumbness from my part, lost it. So here I am with nothing to post. I may not write both of those posts again. So coming back to the main part, I have been bit by the twitter bug and I just can’t seem to ignore it. If you ask how it affects blogging, well I just simply put whatever I want to say in 140 or less characters and even get comments by many people on it. Twitter has even made me lazy and I hate to type too much now.

Ipod and PMPs

Something I have noticed quite often is that how people get confused between an iPod and any other PMP(Portable Media Player), well atleast in India. It seems that most of the people in India think that iPod is how you refer to any portable media player. I have a Transcend T610 and many times people have asked me what is the cost of this ‘iPod’ and I clarify that it is not an iPod but a Transcend T610. They tell me, "Yeah its an iPod made by Transcend." Then starts an ordeal, where I try to make them understand that it’s not like that and that iPod is a PMP made by Apple.  If the person is elder to me by let’s say around 3 to 5 years then he would say that I have no idea about what I am saying. If it’s someone much older they would have changed the topic to something else long back. Then if the person is my age they may agree or may not.

I am sure many people might have faced same or similar problem. It’s just that iPod is such a popular brand that people think it’s how you refer to the device itself. I must say for a country where Apple has no official retail store and no iTunes store, it’s definitely very popular among the masses.

Mobile without Camera

If you have read my last post (if not you can read it now), you can see that how I am in need of a good mobile which has good Internet capabilities but does not have a camera. I had been researching on Internet (on univercell’s site actually) looking for a mobile that suited my needs. I have simple needs. They are:

College, Mobiles and Cameras

I have been in college for more than 4 months now and like many other college going students in India have been instructed not to carry a mobile phone with a camera into the college by our college authorities. I am one of those people who don’t care if we have a camera in our mobile but do need a good enough GPRS facility, nice resolution, JPG image support, mp3 ringtones and Java facility.  So if you want all this you just can’t take a mobile to college because any mobile with these facility ends up having a camera, at the least a VGA camera. Since I am a internet freak I had one of these kinds of phones and I ended up loosing it to the college authorities(even though we are allowed to bring cameras into college). I really have no problem with that fact that they took my mobile phone and neither do I want to write blaming them because that will be too stupid. But I wanted to point out some details for people who might find this interesting.

Nowadays mobile phones as cheap as of Rs. 2500 and above have camera. But many high end mobiles don’t have them(not that we can buy them). Camera with a mobile phone is not a luxury now but actually a necessity according to many people. People demand it since many people use mobile phones as their primary camera. The way mobile has been developing I am sure the day is not far when mobiles phone will not be made without camera. All mobiles will have camera. I guess this would happen in nearly 5-7 years in India. I guess at that time they will just simply ban mobile phones in colleges.

Tux BOSS is IN

I agree that the title seems to be a bit cocky but not as funny as you might think it is. I was actually trying to tell about the new Operating System released by C-DAC(stands for Centre for Developmentt of Advanced Computing). It seems to have been developed with the help of the Central Government and Tamil Nadu State Government. I found this advertisement in The New Indian Express.

Open SuSE with Beryl

I would like to start with saying people on windows who haven’t seen a 3D desktop definitely need to read this one. I have been using windows for years now and have heard many people say that linux is the most unfriendliest operating system, I never asked questions about it. Continue reading ‘Open SuSE with Beryl’
