Sania in Mecca Mosque case

Posted by karthiksn

It seems Sania just can’t stay without being in trouble. It seems that she was recently again in trouble when she shot for an Advertisement inside Mecca Mosque in Hyderabad without permission. It seems she shot the Ad wearing jeans and T-shirt hurting the Muslim sentiments. This is not the first time that she has come under scanner by the Muslim Community. A fatwa had been issued earlier against her for wearing improper clothes. But it was proven to be wrong since that was the dress code of the game she plays. Well, it seems she can be in trouble for doing absolutely anything. Though trespassing is not being considered as a big deal but I must  say it is a big issue. Police are saying its a petty case but I feel they are not looking at it as a whole. I mean how can anyone just barge into a religious place and do whatever they want. Though she has apologised to everyone regarding this, I would still say the case should be continued if not against her at least the Advertising firm since trespassing should be taken seriously. This was the statement issued by her:

‘‘It is with a deep sense of remorse that I would like to apologise to all my brothers, sisters and respected elders, who have been anguished by my entering a portion of the land belonging to the Mecca Masjid, while filming the Charminar with the intention of promoting the heritage monument. While I am fully aware that a woman must not enter the sanctity of the mosque, I was unaware that even entering the outside gates was seriously objectionable, specially without permission, which I was assured by the agency they possessed.”

This should be seen as  a serious offence so that in future no other organisations go inside any religious places(Temples, mosques, churches and etc included) without proper permission of the authorities.

Woodcut Artist

Posted by karthiksn

I love to write about important people I meet now and then. It feels good when I am able to tell people about the interesting things that have happened to me or interesting people that I have met. I recently met a woodcut artist from America. She was here as part of the Fullbright program to teach art students at the Government Arts college in Chennai about printmaking and drawing. Her name is Marcia A. Neblett

Our art Professors seemed to have been quite interested with it, so we were given the chance to meet her.  We went to Lalit Kala Academy here in Chennai where she had her works exhibited for everyone to see.  She was also there was very kind enough to show us her works. She is a wonderful lady, her art reflects many things. I found that her Woodcut painting, made out of blocks of wood cut and then slopped with paint and applied onto paper, was awesome.

Google (Not) Hacked

Posted by karthiksn

I woke up this morning(was going to be afternoon soon as I woke up around 11 am) and as usual I just went and took a glance at the paper, the next thing I saw horrified me. I saw this article in The New Indian Express(a faction of Indian Express which only circulates in South India). My first reaction was “What The F@#$” but when I read the whole news my reaction had calmed down since I realised it was once again one of those great Indian Media Follies; picking up news from places which are least bit credible.

Then I showed this article to Harsh in the evening, he said that he had seen that google watchdog link somewhere and gave me the link. I checked the site and searched for the specific post. What I found was utter crap. The so called keywords which lead you to malicious sites was not even listed there.

I don’t know how Indian media can believe any crap they see on internet. They verified it with some one person who said that he ended up on a malicious site when he searched something on google. I bet he was searching for porn materials on google that is why he ended up on some malicious site. People never even think before they click on the links they see on search indexes. First rule of using internet was and is to use ones common sense, which many people now a days don’t care to use and click away on any links they can find(Even if its scientifically impossible which includes crush calculating and taking photos through you rmonitor and many such stuff).

I hope Indian Media actually wakes up to the world of internet and understand that everything they read on internet is not always correct.

Indian Puppetry Politics

Posted by karthiksn

I had always wondered why Sonia Gandhi never went on to take the post of Prime Minister of India. But when we saw her ruling India using Manmohan Singh as her front it was something that though not a shock but came to us as a revelation. I thought then she might be interested in the post of President of India. There were never signs of her wanting to be the President of India. Then we had Prathiba Patil made as the President of India. Sonia Gandhi has now control over the President of India and the Prime Minister of India. She can now rule both the posts without having to accept the duties that come with it. Everyone can see that though our new President and Prime Minister are brilliant people they are manipulated like puppets. India has now come to a stage where politics has reached heights of corruption and manipulation.

We had a great President before this who was not manipulated by anyone. He knew that interacting with the Public was the best thing to do when he was the President. He always knew that kids are people who should be inspired to lead a life of importance. He had inspired many individuals and most of them were kids who glad to have a President who had knowledge beyond others. Many people were proud to call him their President just because he was a man who had been well educated and was a teacher which is a rarity in Indian Politics. He gave people the hope that we might actually achieve after 60 years of Independence but the hopes shattered when he didn’t continue as the President. I had hoped we could have had a Prime Minister like him who could actually make things happen because of the amount of responsibility that comes with it. I actually do hope he does great in the field of teaching while he still teaches in Anna University here.

The Search for a Helmet

Posted by karthiksn

I was actually not supposed to be posting this, I had been writing another post but really this is something I had to post. There is a new rule by the Tamil Nadu Government; which makes the wearing of Helmets compulsory for both the rider and the pillion rider. I had been bugging my dad for three-four days to get one before they go out of stock and my dad as usual didn’t even care for what I say. When I came home today and told him that tomorrow is 1st June(when the rule gets into effect) he goes OH!! Then I and my dad went on for search of a helmet.

I should have taken my camera with me, all the stores that sold Helmets were filled with people. Even the ones that are not in the city hub were full of customers and had no Helmets left since many people bought them. My dad I went all the way to T. Nagar(Shopping Heaven Hell). Then we directly went to Satans Pit(Sarvana Stores) there. It seemed they were stocking helmets. The worst part of this tiring exercise of pushing ourselves through the crowd and traffic was that none of the helmets left there fit my head(I have a really big head) and we couldn’t buy a smaller one. It took me around 30 minutes to get past the whole bunch of people standing next to the place they had the helmets. When I at last got out of it, my dad wasn’t convinced that they didnt have bigger ones and stood there till I dragged him out of there.

It was really a pain to get back home as the traffic was killing. So in the end we wasted around 2 hours(7:30 pm to 9:30 pm IST) and came home with nothing. So this means my dad will have to take his car out even when only one other person has to travel with him, waste of Petrol.

The worst thing is that from tomorrow onwards the prices of helmets will reach sky high. These people will just hoard it and try to extract more money from people. Anyways next time I go Helmet hunting I am taking camera with me.

Be Gadha No Big Adda

Posted by karthiksn

That was my reaction when I heard about a networking site bigadda(be gadha=be donkey) but it actually meant big adda(big hangout). I went through the site to see what exactly was it and how good exactly was it. I realised that it was just a spruced up version of DesiMartini.com(whose ads has been making rounds of the TV now-a-days.) It was very much similar to Desimartini even the whole look and feel of the site exactly same except for its login page which reminds me somewhat of Hi5.

I checked out the whole site and it seemed kind of dull. It had around 88 members when I had logged in which obviously might have increased by now. Most I mean most are men looking for women. Then 1/4th profiles out of 88 are of women and out of those 1/4th are active. People there can just add people even without the other person knowing about it. It seems that they had added the feature just sometime back so I hadn’t known about it, it’s now quite similar to orkut in terms of friends requests. There are definitely some bugs in it. The image resizer for profile images and album is not at all good compared to the other sites. They have some kind of minimal blog for every account there which is like the usual ones we see on all networking sites. It even has video feature in it which is quite good for a site that new and which is still in its alpha stages. They definitely have lots to improve in it.

From what I have heard from here and there, it seems that the site is owned by reliance. They really want to put their heads in every other thing that they can think of. I actually wanted to know to which reliance brother does this belong, if my guess is right it should belong to the younger brother Anil Ambani. It would make sense since he is the one who has put his money in most of the internet related activities since he owns the Reliance Telecom. I personally don’t think that this site has any big hope until and unless it goes under a radical change in terms of its design and also in terms of its features. It’s trying to compete with Google’s Orkut, Hi5 and MySpace kind of rivals; it definitely need loads more than what it has now.
