I am a bit late for this though it has been more than 3 days since I saw the movie, I have was not able to post since I was in Mumbai and Vodafone thought it would be good to not activate my GPRS for apparently no reason and even after a week it hasn’t been activated(It’s a different story). Well I saw the movie at Fame multiplex in Mumbai at 10:45 since it’s hard to find tickets for other shows.
Review:
So, lets talk about the movie. The story is not at all difficult to understand, it’s simple re-birth story of how the hero dies in 70’s trying to save the girl he loves and is reincarnated. First thing everyone should realise that, movie is made by people who made Main Hoon Na so one thing no one should expect is, story. The movie is actually more or less fast the narration gets into overdrive when they reach 2nd half. SRK remembers his past life just 10 -20 minutes into the 2nd half of the movie. I found that quite ridiculous but still they didn’t prolong it and made it short and sweet. This is one of those masala movies that can boast of action, drama, comedy, romance, thriller, horror(yeah horror too),a little bit of suspense(only tiny bit) and many more genres.
There are many moments where you might feel that the movie is totally senseless and doesn’t bother at all about logic but if you had expected an oscar winning story, then it’s definitely your fault. It’s one of those movies that is just meant to entertain you and nothing else. I personally many times hated the movie just because of not having any logic whatsoever, but still the movie was an entertainer. In Main Hoon Na the ending was a big let down, it was a total what the fuck moment for me when the movie ended. Something that I had really liked about Main Hoon Na was also present in Om Shanti Om, the way they show each and every on screen is the best part. You get to know who all worked on the film. Deepika Padukone was the real treat in the movie, you get to listen some good dialogues from her in the first half and in second half she is wasted(even SRK is wasted but still). Arjun Rampal felt a bit different I wasn’t hoping to see many variations in his expressions but to my surprise he did have different expressions. The second half wasted many of the characters and just rushed to the conclusion. I should specially mention Shreyas Talpade and Kiron Kher who excellently portrayed their roles and were able to do quite a lot of justice to their characters. The acting by the whole crew in the first half was very good though it deteriorated in the 2nd half which I believe is mostly because of fast narration and hasty conclusion.
Though the film has had it share of controversies including Manoj Kumar controversy, it all helps in making the film more popular. Even the blatant copying from the candian film Kopps was criticized by many. I felt that scene was quite funny, though I don’t think family audience would like it very much. I felt a big part of the success of the movie goes to the songs of the movie too. All the songs from Dard-e-Disco to Jag soona soona lage were very nice and gave the movie a very good feeling. I personally feel that Farah Khan has come a long way(on the same road though) since Main Hoon Na. I won’t rate the movie or anything since most of the people might have rated it but one thing I would say is even if you hate Sharukh Khan or SRK and Farah Khan combination, you should definitely watch this movie for Deepika Padukone because she just looks awesome in the movie.
So I would conclude this review by saying that whatever anyone says this movie will definitely rake in a lot of moolah and will entertain lots of people because cinema was made for entertainment.
