Deadly Game to Play
Well, India is definitely gripped in the Cricket World Cup fever. We are one of those proud countries who ditch their own National Game(Hockey in India’s case) for some other game(Cricket here). Most of the Indians consider Cricket as religion in India and the players have god like status. Like everyone in America knows how to play baseball, here in India everyone knows hot to play cricket.
Though I am not a big fan of games, I also know how to play cricket. In India when something has such cult following, what happens when they loose a match is quite predictable. In India’s first World Cup match against Bangladesh they lost very badly. Well, in most cases it would mean heart broken supporters but it was quite different here, many supporters enraged burned their effigies and even did some serious damage here and there. No one in India, ever considered the fact that actually the Bangladeshi were just better than India. Indian cricketers spend their time with TV ads and stuff, whereas I guess the Bangladesh players might have spent their time practising as hard as they can.
Indian people can’t come to terms that they lost not because of anything else but them. Indians gave their players God-like status and actually encouraged them to take on Ads. Indians always do this with players by taking them to the highest spot available and dropping them from that position in time. Like it happened to Sourav Ganguly and Virendra Sehwag.
Advertisers and all the ad campaigns take front seat in players pressing agendas and cricket takes a back seat. You can’t blame a coach if his players are not practising. These guys appear in almost all of the ads that come on TV and now-a-days these guys have become party animals too. I don’t blame them for being party animals, but after doing so many things how do they find the time for the practice sessions.
I get it that it’s hard, I men when people bitch about you but the thing is that they lost to a team which is lot less experienced compared to them. Bangladesh won sheerly by efforts which was not at all present on the Indian side. I hope they don’t loose to Bermuda too, as it would be nothing but insulting loosing to first timers too.
