Open SuSE with Beryl
I would like to start with saying people on windows who haven’t seen a 3D desktop definitely need to read this one. I have been using windows for years now and have heard many people say that linux is the most unfriendliest operating system, I never asked questions about it. Recently I tried Ubuntu and liked it then when I upgraded had problems with my ethernet port so ditched ubuntu. After that I tried Fedora Core 6 and didn’t like it very much. After that I ended up installing Open SuSE 10.2 because Harsh told me to try it. First it had problems with my monitor which I was able to sort out. It was great after installing it as it looked good, but I wanted to try Beryl(3D environment). After help from Harsh and Mehul I was able to do and I have to say winodws looks like shit now, so to substantiate my claim I will post the pics here.
This one shows “The Cube” which allows me to jump from one dektop to other in Open SuSE.
Literaly playing with the windows. Its great when winodws shrink and do wierd stuff it even has jenie effect but I didnt put that up as its common.
Next is my favourite I have put this screenshot on my deviantart page and I know that this is the best screenshot I have put there.
After seeing this picture no one can say that Linux has bad GUI or no GUI at all.

Hey dude, but all this eye candy must be causing a lot of strain on resources, isent it??
Maybe it wont be a much concern to an average untechnical user, but for a professional or a power user, this will be more sort of a distraction bug rather then an absolute feature.
But anyway - if the end user demands this, then the distro creators have to give it. Thats all
PS - Windows does look like a crap shit..

Well mostly people who really have bad idea about linux are the untechnical people and you can just switch it off and on whenever you like to. And well with AIGLX the strain on resources is less but with Dual core and a n6150 you wont feel strain.
And as vista is mostly about Eye candy its a good throwback on it.

Wait, the flickr ones don’t the other 2 do…. Nice ones. Should make it a point to try out Open SUSE, though I don’t know where I can procure a copy. Anybody tried out Vista yet?

Flickr ones seem to work fine with me though.
Its not the Open SuSE. Its Beryl’s magic and no didn’t try Vista.

Chrono, You can get this month’s LFY or PC-World to acquire a copy of OpenSuSE 10.2 and yeah, its Beryl effects.
@Harshad - I had an MX 4000 which couldn’t run even a bit of Aero of Vista but it ran the XGL/AIGLX completely.

And talking about professionalism, try hitting the top right edge of your screen with your mouse, Expose’ effect. What’s more productive and powered than that?

Thanks to Harsh, even I got the encouragement to try SuSE.
But hey, I thought OpenSUSE 10.2 had Compiz :-s
Anyways, its aweosome to work with such an environment..
If only I didnt need to use VB6.0 and PSCS2 *sigh*

Well, i know that and that it why I wondered the same. Coz my SuSE said Compiz :p
